Food Empire Holdings Ltd has been awarded the Singapore
Star Award 2002 for innovative design and packaging
for two products - the Klassno Cappuccino Gold instant
beverage and the MacCandy range of chewy fruity candies
in orange, strawberry and lemon flavours.
This is the third consecutive year that Food Empire
Holdings, a leading food and beverage manufacturing
and marketing group, has received these coveted awards
in the Consumer Packaging for Sales and Display Products
category. The awards will be given at tonight's 70th
Anniversary Gala Dinner, organised by the Singapore
Confederation of Industries (SCI), to be held at the
Shangri-la Hotel. Prime Minister Mr Goh Chok Tong will
grace the event as the Guest-of-Honour.
The Singapore Star Award is an annual event organised
jointly by SCI and the Packaging Council of Singapore
(PCS). The awards are given for innovative and creative
designs with quality products and packaging. It aims
to recognise and reward excellence in the use of design
and technology in packaging.
Mr Tan Wang Cheow, Managing Director of Food Empire
Holdings said: 'I am very pleased that Food Empire has
once again received recognition for the design of its
products. This achievement is made all the more rewarding
as it is the third consecutive year that we have received
this award for design work created by our inhouse designers."

for our products. These latest awards will motivate
our in-house design team to work even harder to raise
the standards of our company's design and packaging."
The awards were given for the quality design and packaging
of MacCandy Chewy, a range of chewy candy available
in three fruity flavours (orange, strawberry and lemon),
and Klassno Cappuccino Gold, a rich instant coffee drink
with aromatic hints of Irish Cream.
MacCandy Chewy candies come individually wrapped in
brightly coloured packaging. They are available in attractively
designed bags of 15 pieces, 192 pieces in a display
box and 200 pieces in a jar. Klassno Cappuccino Gold
comes in a fiery red resealable 2OOg pouch bag. This
creative stand-up pouch with its zip-lock feature allows
easy usage and helps retain freshness of the beverage.

The recent global recognition included the following:
· Food Empire received nine awards for the excellent

Oriental Pack was selected as a finalist for Innovative
Products at two exhibitions - the European Seafood Exposition
in Brussels and the International Boston Seafood Show
in U.S. in early 2002.
· Food Empire's leading house brand MacCoffee
was voted as the number one winner in the category'Top
Instant Coffee drink' in Ukraine's "Choice of the
Year" Award given to the most popular products
in various categories. This national event was held
in Kiev in December 2001.
Other past accolades included the prestigious 10th
Golden American Award for Quality (given in New York
in 1998), the 22nd Best Trade Name (Rome, 1997) and
the 10th Golden Europe Award for Quality (Paris, 1996).
